We began the day with breakfast at the Big Sur Bakery…beautiful setting to enjoy the early morning sun.   We then continued our drive down Highway One.   The scenery is amazing and the sea is very dramatic as it hits the cliffs.   The car did well as it climbed and fell quickly around the curvey coastal road. It was just beautiful.

We had a few photo stops but the biggest stop was once we noticed a large colony of sea lions. We weren’t too far away from them as we watched them throw sand over their bodies as the basked in the sun. They seem so awkward as they slithered down the sand towards the water.   They’d flop for a few minutes as it seemed such a big effort for them to more along.

We arrived at the Apple Farm Inn by lunch time and found we’d walked into Mom ‘n’ Pop country, very old fashioned and over the top.   We tried some home made cider and ice cream in the Water mill shop and had lunch at the Inn itself before we were able to check in.   Our room was something else. I don’t think I’ve seen so many flowers in one room on the walls, and bedspreads and pillows.

Around 6pm we caught the 25 cent trolley to the Farmers Market which happens every Thursday evening.   The street where we entered was filled with little gymnasts doing a display, there were some very clever springy girls and boys. As we wandered up and down the street there were rib bbq’s, vegetable stalls, crepe shops etc all out on the street.   The smell was gorgeous.   There were also a stall where you could take a quizz to see if you were going to heaven?!

For dinner we enjoyed some of the street stall BBQs, I tried the corn on the cob which was great. All and all it was a fabulous atmosphere and great fun, feeling quite villagey.
