Plymouth

Ofstead is over and lovely Gavin whisked me away for the weekend. Today I was the only refreshed teacher, who had been able to put the experience behind them. Everyone else was still feeling the effects.

So our weekend away. We took a train to Plymouth. Although the weather was not great, we took jackets and its suppose to be summer, we managed to explore the small town. We went around the oldest fort in England, the Royal Citadel, still occupied by the navy now. From a historical point of view it is quite important. It was severely bombed in WW2 due to the naval dock and ship building yards. It was the site of the battle between Britain and the Spanish Armada ages ago. Also of course the Mayflower sailed to America from her. A fact we did not know was that the first emigrant ship to NZ went from here as well. On Sunday we went on a boat trip around Plymouth sounds and up to Davenport naval base. I saw my first close-up nuclear power sub, not to mention a few frigates, and an aircraft carrier. It was exactly the weekend I needed.
