The reason
I most wanted to go into Westminster Abbey was to see a lot
of famous graves. Slightly sick reason I know, but really is
amazing to consider that the person that lies under your feet
has been there for hundreds of years. Some highlights included
the tomb of Queen Elizabeth I, her step sister Mary, and Charles
Dickens. As well as these well known celebrities there is a
tribute to a unknown solider marking WW1.
Parts of
the abbey date to the 13th Century but like most London buildings
many examples of different eras of architecture can be seen.
One chapel we went into had the original Roman floor tiles still
coloured. Very impressive.
The hideously
old coronation chair is also on display. Every monarch since
1308 has been crowned in this chair.
Other royal
connections include the wedding and funeral of Princess Diana
and the Queen Mother (2002).
The Gothic
looking Abbey remains one of my favourite buildings in London.
