Trafalgar Square

January 31, 1999

This was my orientation to London. I loved the pigeons; yes I do mean the birds. Aunty Sharon was less than impressed when I preferred these diseased birds to her chickens. It was quite special feeding them out of my hand.

Nelson's column is huge.

It celebrates one of England's greatest Naval officers.

It is flanked by four majestic lions.

This photo shows the world's smallest police station.

It's over near the tree.

The police use it to maintain a low profile during protests. An officer can observe through the slits and call back up if needed.

A very cunning idea.

An artist that the queen favoured modelled these lions. He was not a sculptor and was not overly happy to take on the job. But you don't say no to the queen.

He waited for a lion in the London Zoo to die and then kept in in his lounge to complete the project. He got to the paws and decided to finish the rest using his cat as the model. As you might imagine the lion was beginning to stink.

Here's where he made a vital error. He assumed incorrectly that the cat's paws were identical to that of a lion. A lion has four toes unlike his smaller cousin who only has three.
