London Eye

February 14, 2001

It's finally happened. In the most perfect place, and on the most perfect night. I had a very bad day at work and was babbling about that as we walked along the Thames. Then I realised we were at the London Eye (a big type of Ferris wheel, but it is a complete glass capsule which takes ½ an hour to go around and goes higher than the top of Big Ben and St Pauls). Usually you go in a capsule with 15 - 20 other people but as a special Valentines Day promotion we went in a capsule by a waiter and ourselves. We had Champagne, strawberries and Chocolate. It was a good night in that there were no clouds at all so you could see all over London. And so at the very top, he said ' I have something to ask you, if my back wasn't sore I'd get down on one knee, will you marry me, and he produced a really lovely solitaire diamond ring. Of course I said yes, and then did my usual trick of crying. The ring was just a placeholder so to speak and we'll replace soon with the real thing. As a result we didn't see much on the way down. Then we went for a lovely meal and had a great night. We rang the parents, and grandparents and aunties and uncles etc, and of course they're happy it's finally happened. Unfortunately it took ages to get hold of Rachel as she was winging her way to South Africa. Luckily a week later she heard the news from me rather than through the grapevine.

We went to Oxford for the weekend to celebrate.
