Docklands
Light railway took us south east down to the north side of the
Thames. Across the water is Greenwich. To get there you walk
under the Thames. Not an enlightening prospect. It was really
cold in the tunnel and I felt quite claustrophobic but its
not a long walk so I survived.
Up the hill
of Greenwich park is this spectacular view. From here you can
see the Millennium Dome.
Here are
some of the world's most famous landmarks. The Meridian line
that divides the world exactly in half with the international
dateline means I'm not sure if I'm east or west (picture left)
.
Here I am by the clock of all clocks (picture right). This is
at the Old Royal Observatory. The clock is 120 years old and
is accurate to a fifth of a second. The imperial measures are
also on public display to check your rulers.
While walking
down the hill of the Royal Observatory we came across this delightful
tree. Yes that is chewing gum you can see stuck all over the
branches. YUK!
Update:
When Colleen
was over I took her here. Here's a good photo showing the two
sides of the tunnel under the river. They are the two red domes.
The chewing gum tree had been cut down.
