Leeds

June 5 - June 6, 1999

We left early and took a train to Leeds. We stayed in a really nice hotel and when went arrived in our room the TV was displaying a message which said ‘Welcome to the Marriot Miss Trotter’. I decided to go sightseeing while Gavin watched some cricket and relaxed.

Leeds is shopping central. It has some really old-fashioned market areas. Leeds is shopping central. It has some really old-fashioned market areas. Not markets London style but real markets including fish sections, meat sections etc with people calling out trying to entice you to buy their wares. I was in seventh heaven

Later on I took a bus out to Kirkstall Abbey. I was lucky enough to join one of the few tours they do a year. It was very well preserved. We got to go in some parts that are closed off to the public.

This was inside the church, built in 1160. After King Henry VIII this was used as the main road into the city, with carriages going down the middle of the aisle.

These ruins are some of the best preserved in England.

This shows the entrance to The Chapter House, the Cloister, and above is the remains of the Choir monks dormitory.

In the Chapter House these tombs lie. The hole was for the remains of the body to seep through as the body decayed.

When we went out for dinner we took the lift down and who was in the lobby. Chris Cairns!! Luckily Gavin managed to shut me up before I completely embarrassed us.
Next morning the weather was not looking too good. We took the train out to Headingly.

We received a message from the boys. Someone, remaining nameless, put petrol in a diesel car. So Gavin and I watched the cricket by ourselves. It was not exactly enthralling as it rained on and off all day. Click here for match summary.
