Hastings/Battle

Tennis 2003

After the tennis we stayed over night in Hastings and I visited the ruins of the castle in the morning. It was one of the first ever castles built in England.

Then we drove to Battle - where the battle of Hastings took place in 1066. We could look across the battlefield and all around the abbey ruins that are there now. It was a very strange thought that people were dying in this field so many years ago.

Basically after this battle the whole of England settled down and they had amore stable King and counties etc rather than there being battles every week for a new King. They also started to build castles around the country for defence, Hastings being one of them.
