Mike stayed
with us for a few days in September and being the good tour
guides we were we hired a car for a day trip down south. Our
first stop was a country walk through the Ashdown forest. We
got a little lost and I don't think we ended up going the right
way but it was still nice anyway to be in the open fields.
We carried
on down to Afriston and on the way we looked at a chalk carving
on the downs. He is known as the Long Man of Wilmington and
is probably Anglo-Saxon although there is no written record
of him pre 18th Century.
