22/08/99 New Zealand v EnglandThird testWow what a great day! History was made again and again I was there to see it. New Zealand won another test series which then clinched the series. England looked like winning as they had two days to bat for only 220 runs. Yet they did not have the luxury of a tail. They were 123 for 2 before the New Zealand bowlers decided enough was enough and dismissed the rest by the time they got to 162. Dion Nash was on a hatrick but missed out. One of the best parts was the obvious joy and pleasure the New Zealanders were getting from each dismissal. Barclay was not so joyous. It took only 10 minutes after lunch to finish them off. We went out onto the pitch and waited around fro the presentations. Cairns deservedly took man of the match and series, yet Nash and Vettori were close contenders. Fleming has had an awesome series as captain. After a while the players came down onto the pitch and I was standing so close to Craig McMillan, Harris and Alliot I could of touched them. I got such a buzz. The three best days of cricket this season include today, the test win at Lords and beating Australia in the one day, and I’ve been at all of them. |
